The Gospels in Harmony  Sermon #357-1722
John 11:6-10

6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

As we continue in the recording of the raising of Lazarus remember we are getting a background into why there were great multitudes wherever Jesus went and why the Pharisees, the religious leaders were plotting to do away with Him.
Think about this for a moment.
Everywhere Jesus went He was healing people both physically and spiritually.
Talk about making the religious leaders look bad! And they couldn't just outright arrest Him because no matter what they tried to charge Him with Jesus just turned it back against them. Of course, there were the people to deal with also. The religious leaders themselves were outnumbered. The multitudes or great multitudes would never allow Jesus to be forcibly taken. Not by the religious leaders themselves. It would take the Roman guard to do something like that. The religious leaders were not going to physically waylay Jesus and haul Him off. No, they would never openly appear to be that dastardly or evil. And so a plan was being devised to do just that.
Now many people would not say such a thing about the Pharisees, however they had become anything but Godly and even God fearing. Their glory was in themselves as was their righteousness and holiness. Pride would not allow them to look upon Jesus with any kind of belief. All they could see was a threat. A threat to their superiority and wealthy existence. Surely it would be better to eliminate one man for the good of many. The many being themselves, and in their minds, all the Jews they kept in subordination.
So, let’s keep this in mind as we proceed with our study.
6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
After Jesus was officially notified of the sickness of Lazarus, He waited another two days to respond to the summons. Once again, we must always keep in mind, in our lives we will have trials and tribulations. We need to call on our Lord and savior for help and guidance and deliverance, but we also need to be patient and faithful that His answer and solution will be the best for His glory. We are but servants to Him. There is no end to the love that we live in with Him but our ways are not His ways and His thoughts are not ours. Our end is to glorify God. We live in His purpose. Not my will but thy will Lord!
It glorifies God when we come to Him in faith and in prayer. We have only to ask and speak or concerns and desires, but it is our creators will how and when we will receive an answer great or small. Only God can see and knows the big picture. How we fit into it is up to Him. But rest assured we all have a purpose for God’s glory.
John 11:7
7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
When the time was right Jesus spoke to His disciples and I have often wondered at the various responses of the disciples to everything Jesus was filling them in on.
First it was the decision to return to an area where they had left because of the religious leaders’ intent to harm Him.
This made no sense to the disciples. Why would Jesus walk right back into the face of obvious trouble?
John 11:8
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
They still did not get it. Their flesh was overpowering their faith in who Jesus was. How often do we do the same thing!
Over and over again, we believe we have the answers to everyday events because we know the outcome as humans. We understand the consequences of many things by what we have seen, know or experienced in the flesh. However, faith is not walking in the flesh and making decisions by what we assume will happen. Or at least what is most likely to happen.
Faith is walking in the light of the knowledge and power of who we are in Christ Jesus.
John 11:9
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
Faith in the power of Christ Jesus to not only guide but protect us wherever He needs us to be. It is walking in the light and life that this world does not know. This world only knows the darkness of fear and cannot see anything because of it.
John 11:10
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
Oh my beloved brothers and sisters.
To call yourself a Christian and walk in fear is a sin.
1 Samuel 15:24
24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
If you had the faith to come to the cross, believing Jesus died for your sin and will accept you as you are to be washed in His blood and clothed in His holiness and returned to our Father as a child of God than where is your faith to walk above the fears of this world?
Hebrews 11:1-2
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Proverbs 1:33
33 But whoso hearkeneth (listens) unto me shall dwell safely,
and shall be quiet from (without) fear of evil.
We sometimes are so critical of the disciples as we read of their reactions and fears and even their replies to Jesus. Oh it's so easy to point fingers at others but do we really walk in the kind of faith that Jesus is speaking of. Do we walk in the light of faith turning away from the world and it's fears? Do we walk above what men would have us to believe?  Does the world recognize us to be different? Are we so bold in our faith that the world sees us calm and collected no matter what is thrown at us?
Well folks, trusting our lives are in the hands of God and we live for His glory is the first step in that kind of faith. Rising to walk in that faith is the second step. When you have those two steps accomplished you can surely believe you are on the well-lit path of faith in Christ Jesus.
But if you think you are saved and still walk in fear. Still walk in a way that this world cannot see the Light of life Himself in you, please, please, please stop and look long and hard at yourself and what you really believe. There are so many people in this world who have succumbed to a false salvation. They have been told to believe this or that about Jesus and then they have been told they are saved. All is good. Just go on because it's all over and they will be going to heaven.
Well, I'm sorry to say, when they close their eyes for the last time, they will never see the light of life again. Why? Because they never grabbed hold of the truth of walking in faith in and through Jesus Christ. The world never saw Jesus in them and Jesus never shown through them.
Every man is given a seed of faith but not many will plant that seed. That seed is enough faith for every man to come to the light of the truth in Jesus Christ. The truth of the living Word of God. That word is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and it waters that seed of faith until it takes root and grows in a man. And like a well-watered plant our faith should not only grow but produce and be seen producing in great faith.
2 Peter 1:19
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
The world today does not see the power or light of Christ in the church. In the people who claim to be children of God because those people do not walk in the light of the day but continue to stumble in the darkness of fear and unbelief.
It's not enough to say you believe in Jesus! You must walk with Him in His light.
Look at what Jesus is saying to His disciples and in extension to every child of God and follower of Jesus today.
John 11:7
7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
John 11:9-10
9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

What was this in answer too? Verse 8 The fears of the disciples.
 John 11:8
8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?
The fears of the followers of Jesus unable to rise and walk in the guidance, power and protection of Jesus Christ. After all they had seen Him do. After all the places He had taken them and taught them and shown them, they still believed a few religious leaders could harm Him or them if they wanted to.
As a Christian if you are walking in the will and obedience to the Word of God, there is nothing that will or can keep you from completing what you have been called to do and risen to do for the Glory of our Lord. No matter what it looks like or most likely should happen, you will walk a path that is straight and well lit.
Proverbs 3:5-8
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes:
fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel,
and marrow to thy bones.
Do not fear the world. Rise in faith and the promises of God to honor and glorify Him. Water your faith with the living Word and grow to be a fruitful disciple and servant that the world will recognize the presence of Christ in you. Amen!
