John 10:27-31
The Gospels in Harmony  Sermon #312-32420

27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30  I and my Father are one. 31  Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
John 10:27-31

27  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
John 10:27

Hearing the voice of God is something that you will never forget.
Many times I have been blessed to hear that sweet soft voice speaking with power and direction for my life. Many times I have heard Him answer my prayers with instruction and knowledge of what was to come. Many times I have heard little more than a single word of approval or disapproval in my very soul. But the first time I heard the voice of my Lord was His call to me to come and humble myself before Him in all sincerity. I wanted so much to give my life to Jesus and I believe he knew I was sincere but at that time I was not encouraged or even led by adults who were saved. Our mother took us to church because she was invited and believed it was the right thing to do. But when I was called by the Holy Spirit to go to the altar, my parents acted embarrassed and were so unsure of what was going on they encouraged me to get up and leave before the pastor could pray with me. They never went back to that church. It was many years later before I heard that voice again and the night that I did I hit the floor in tears for having waited so long to come to feet of Jesus and confess Him as my Lord and savior. I poured out my confession of sin and He poured Himself into me. I'll never forget His words to me "You are forgiven".
Since that day I have heard His voice and seen His hand in my life continuously. His guidance, His provision and His protection have been with me as I walk and work in love with Him.  As long as I look for Him to lead me through each day He is there. When I ask in prayer He answers. When He calls me to rise and serve, I answer.
I walk in peace even in these troubling and perilous times because I know my Lord is in front of me, beside me and behind me. Nothing that comes against mankind can take me away from the presence of the Lord. This body will cease to exist but I will never be taken away from Him.
28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:28
At this time in the history of this world as we know it, we are faced with a disease that is highly infectious, damaging to its survivors and deadly to many. The death rate is much higher, as the number of cases is much higher and it has proven to be an evil that doesn't care who you are or where you are.
It is sad to watch people frantically do exactly the opposite of what they have been wisely advised not to do. Going out into public places in large numbers, traveling great distances because they always have and nothing ever happened before or they had made those plans and already paid for the trip. Self centered attitudes spread death in times like these.
I once knew a young woman who had this attitude without any threat over her. She could care less about who she endangered or hurt by her actions as long as she got what she wanted her way. If someone else was blessed in some way, you could see and hear her reaction. It was always the same. "What about me"!
Self centeredness is what we are seeing in people today during this time of peril. The hording of general supplies and the lack of concern for others is heart breaking. Many of the people who have proven themselves guilty also claim to be religious. Well, I don't know what kind of religion they practice but they are not born again Christians. Notice I said born again. You can practice Christianity but that does not mean you live for Christ. Churches are full of church goers but few born again children of God. The fields are full of sheep but few belong to the Good Shepherd.
The next thing we see in men today during this perilous time is fear.
Self centeredness breeds fear. Not only fear of not getting enough of what each person believes they should have but fear of death. They are so afraid of getting sick and dying they will actually go out and risk getting sick to get what they want. They will risk spreading a disease to others just to have what they think they will need to live.
They fear dying but challenge God to protect them.
There is a great difference between living for God and challenging Him to keep you.
Verse 27 in our text ends with:--- and they follow me:
John 10:27
It is the Word of God that guides us and strengthens us and empowers us to stand in the midst of the battle we all face every day. The Word of God is Jesus Christ given in love for our salvation. The Word of God is to be followed that our savior will be seen in and through us.
What do we see in most people today?
Fear and greed.
Fear they will not get their fare share of whatever is available and greed because they will do anything to get all they want.
They claim to know God but challenge Him to overlook their ungodly behavior. They fear because they do not know God but bow to Satan who has them under his self centered and self righteous control.

28  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:28
Let me assure you my friend, if you live for Jesus Christ; if you live for life you walk in faith and obedience without fear. No one who knows God by His Holy Word will be blatantly stupid and challenge God to keep them from harm. That would be taking the lead and demanding Jesus be your protector against every evil the world has to offer. No the Word of God says Jesus leads us and we follow. He leads us in peace and safety even through the valley of the shadow of death. And if we do cease to live in this world we continue to live in the kingdom of God with our Lord and savior. Nothing is greater than the gift of life in and through Jesus Christ.
Why?
Because it is the gift of God to all men if they will accept it. God gave His Word that if we will repent of our sin and believe in our hearts we will be saved from eternal death and given eternal life.
29  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
John 10:29
No matter what comes against us in this world, we can live for life in Jesus Christ. So many people right now are so afraid of getting sick and dying. So many people are so lost in their fear they call on God to save them as a last resort. Well folks, if you truly believed in God you would know that running out to buy up all the toilet paper and groceries is not trusting in Gods hand of provision. If you actually lived for life you would know how to stay calm and use your God given brain to reason out your every move.
Creating drastic shortages because of fear and greed is the work of Satan and no true child of God would or will be involved with it. I'm not saying do nothing and challenge God to supply everything. I'm saying live for life. Live to help and share and provide for others. If you truly believe in Jesus you know what you have will always be enough.

30  I and my Father are one.
John 10:30
Could there ever be a more clear statement of who Jesus really is.
Even when He was walking among us in this world He was still God. He was God incarnate.
Do you know what the word incarnate means?
It means to exist in bodily form.
It means there is no division, difference or unlikeness in anyway. Jesus was saying to the Jews when you look at Me you should recognize who I am.
My beloved brethren that is not unlike what should be going on with you.
If you are one with our Lord and Savior through the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit in you, the world should see Jesus when they look at you. They should see and hear the light and sound of truth in your words and know by your very life that God is present in and through you. We are to be being changed into the likeness of Christ who is one with the Father!
The very life you live should be superfluous with the presence and power of faith and obedience to the Word of God.
Yes, people will deny what they see. Yes, they will be blind to what they see and Yes, they will hate you because of you are steadfast and filled with the power of love and peace that only comes through a personal relationship with Jesus.
There are many very religious people who try with all their might to have what real Christians have. But no matter how hard they try they will never know the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (ref Phil 4:7).
Before they will ever humble themselves they will rise in anger. They will deny and refuse and even abuse you for what you have and what you are in Jesus.
Stop and think who it is who will rise up against proof of the truth faster than anyone. It is the many who do not want to believe in anything other than themselves. What they have created to be holiness and righteousness by their own standards. They will not accept anyone freely living a life of peace and joy when they have worked so hard to earn it.
Faith in Jesus Christ is the door to freedom from the law that has made sin exceedingly sinful. All religion becomes a law to them who commit themselves to it. But salvation is by grace through faith and not the laws and the standards of religion.  All who put their religions above faith in Jesus Christ will deny that free gift of life because of their self righteous pride.
31  Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
John 10:31
Folks, in these troubling and testing times we can and should walk in the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Fear is not from God. I'm not saying to be stupid and challenge God to protect you. I'm saying walk in the wisdom of the Word. Walk in the knowledge of whose hands you are in and the security and power of those hands. Do not be afraid. Be humble and wise and always prepared to share the Gospel to all who are in need of the only one who can save them.
Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen!
