Matthew 12:29-32   Mark 3:27-30
The Gospels in Harmony  Sermon #154-73018

29  Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30  He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31  Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32  And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Matthew 12:29-32
27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28  Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29  But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
30  Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Mark 3:27-30

In our last sermon we covered the healing of a demon possessed man who was both blind and dumb. Dumb as in unable to speak.
Jesus healed the man and cast out the demon that lived within him.
The scribes and Pharisees however had painted themselves as being so holy and righteous and empowered by God to be above all sin, did not like someone, not of their group, doing what they professed to be able to do. They of course, by their standard of thinking, worked in holiness so everyone else must work by the power of Satan.
Wow! Can you get a feel for the power of Satan in that kind of self-righteousness and arrogance?
These were supposed to be the religious leaders of the people of Israel and all they were was Satan's religious servants.
No wonder the Bible teaches salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
There is no religious superiority or arrogance in that!
Let's begin where we left off in our last sermon and perhaps I can explain this even better.
27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Mark 3:27
29  Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
Matthew 12:29
Satan is the strong man. The strong mans house is this world we live in that was defiled by sin. We are talking about every filthy thought and action which includes unbelief and blatant denial of God. It also is the reason we suffer from sickness and disease and debilitating handicaps like blindness and deafness and physical deformities. They are all Satan's goods!
But in order to remove or take Satan's good's out of his possession Satan must first be subdued by a greater power.
Listen folks, in order to subdue Satan and reclaim your life from the sin you were born into and even to overcome the results of sin in this world, you must first bind the strongman.
How does one do that?
By going straight to the top!
Even Satan was created by God and Satan knows it!
That is why he works so hard at covering the truth by deceiving even person who would seek the truth. That is why we have so many false religions and even false salvations. Satan's strength is in his lies. His power is making you believe even a slight variation of the truth, which in fact is an untruth, which places you under his power to continue deceiving and coaxing you away from the truth of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Satan has no problem with letting people believe they are saved as long as they think they can continue bending and breaking and even ignoring bits and pieces of the Word of God given to guide us in our walk in and for Christ.
You must first bind the strong man.
It is the Word of God that binds Satan. It is the Word of God that makes Satan walk behind you in a position of non-interference. It is the Word of God that we as children have the authority to speak. It is the Word of God that binds the strongman, not our whimsical wants and needs and self-centered interpretations of the Word.
In the wilderness when Jesus was tempted by Satan; every time Jesus answered one of Satan's attempts to gain control of Jesus, Jesus answered with, "It is written"---(ref. Matthew 4:4, 4:7, 4:10)
     He did not answer with:
Well, it's my understanding or I don't think that's right, or I'm not sure but!
No, it was a clear and decisive answer with full understanding of the truth and authority of the Word of God. Satan was bound and made to leave.
Entering into the strong mans house is to walk in this world as someone who does not belong yet you have the authority to walk free of what Satan has turned it into. If you are going to spoil the strong mans house you must speak and serve in the power of God by His Spirit. It is the presence of God in you that Satan and his disciples will acknowledge and obey.
It is the authority of God the Holy Spirit that Satan knows he cannot win against when confronted head on. It is everything that sin has corrupted that still must answer to God.
I can give testimony of people being healed by the power of the presence of God by faith and the obedience of faith filled disciples to speak the Word of God over the sick and afflicted. Sickness and disease was cast out because the truth of the will of God for His children was stated and kept.
The truth was stood in and on and the strong man, (Satan) had to leave along with the physical corruption that he brought into this world.
Jesus now gives the truth in such black and white terms that even the arrogance of the Pharisees could not stop it from cutting to the bone.
28  Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
Mark 3:28
Because Jesus was and is able to forgive sin, He was also able to speak the law of forgiveness by grace.
All sins shall be forgiven.
Look at the word Jesus uses to emphasis whom it is that all men sin against.
Blaspheme!
To blaspheme against God is everything from blatant denial, to accusing, to cursing, even to refusal of reverence. It is disgracing God in any form, great or small.
We as Christians often lose sight of the totality of the meanings of words but we must understand that sin is sin great or small. Intentional or unintentional sin is something we must deal with throughout our lives, in us and around us. Christians should have a greater understanding of what sin is and how easy it is to creep into our lives. How often we overlook small things that truly are an offense to our Father in Heaven.
     Jesus said all sins.
All means all. Sins is plural. -----Except!
Matthew 12:31-32
29  But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Mark 3:29
It is the Holy Spirit of truth that speaks to every man that he may hear without exception. There will be no excuses for blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
Refuse His call, accuse Him of being what He is not, curse His presence in others or blatantly deny He even exists. It makes no difference.
But it is the Holy Spirit who speaks with the voice of God through the truth of the Word by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the Holy Spirit who works in and through the children of God to prove the presence of God in this world.
It is the Holy Spirit who was given as our helper to wash and teach and protect and guide and deliver us whole and holy to our Lord God in Heaven.
There is an overriding point that needs to be made from verse 29 in Mark and verse 32 in Matthew.
The whole point Jesus is making here is that unbelief is blaspheming against God the Holy Spirit. He is the living Spirit of resurrecting power. He is the one who will lift our cursed souls to everlasting life by grace through faith in Jesus Christ
You cannot be forgiven of your sins. You cannot be saved if you do not believe the Holy Spirit is the gift of God given to you at the moment of repentance unto faith and commitment in obedience for life in the glory of God. Just as you must completely believe Jesus Christ was given as a perfect blood sacrifice for our sin, you must believe the Holy Spirit of truth and power is given as a seal, a proof of purchase given to each of us that we may be presented holy and washed for our Lord and savior.
Even doubt that you have been sealed is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Believing you must ask for a special baptism is blaspheming the presence and work of the Spirit as God has given Him for us. It is saying you don't believe God gave you His all as He has promised.
The Holy Spirit is God in us for His glory. It is the Holy Spirit that works all things for the good.
28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
The scribes and Pharisees refused to see the very presence of God in Jesus because their arrogance would not allow them to be outdone or bested in any way. Jesus said, (in paraphrase) "You can blaspheme me but it is the Holy Spirit of God who works in Me and through Me for Gods glory and to blaspheme Him or His work will set you on the path of eternal damnation. As long as you refuse or doubt the presence and power of God you cannot be nor will be saved."
30  Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Mark 3:30
    It is plain and simple.
Doubt is as great a sin against God as denial. Complacency is as damning as refusal. Not knowing the truth of the gift of the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation is the same as not knowing the promises of God through faith in Jesus Christ. It is all a form of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit whose work is to bring us into the glory of God for everlasting life.
Look at what the Pharisees were doing.
They were accusing the Spirit of God in Jesus of being an evil spirit.
They doubted the power of God to be greater than the power of Satan. They were refusing to recognize the presence of God.
Why? Because they had created their own kingdom with their own god that only recognized them and their religious attitudes and righteousness. Everyone else was a sinner or at best far beneath them and their position of proclaiming right from wrong.
Jesus was assuring them they were in grave danger of eternal damnation because He had already made them admit, at least to themselves, they were wrong in their accusation against Him.
30  Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
Mark 3:30

30  He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
Matthew 12:30
Short and pointed. That's what I like!
Don't accuse me of being too harsh in my sermons or callused in my cut and dried, black and white, short and to the point (well at least to the point) sermons!
Jesus just laid the fire to the tinder and there was only one thing that could happen. The truth was going to burn in their very souls.
If you are not with me you are against me!
No half way, no excuses.
If you are not a committed, devoted and active, disciple, minister and evangelist of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit in the will of God; then you are helping Satan to scatter his lies to chase and coax the elect away from the truth in the Word.
If you do not know and believe the Holy Spirit of God is in you, for you,  from the instant you are saved until you step before our Father in Heaven, then you are not saved by grace through faith. It is God's voice through His Spirit that calls you to repentance unto faith in Jesus Christ. It is total faith in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit that authorizes you to speak the truth of God's Word to bind and take back what Satan has stole from you.
No other spirit has the power to finish the Good work that God has begun in all of His called.
6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Philippians 1:6
The Pharisees were religious practitioners. Their faith was in themselves.
True believers put their faith in the Holy Spirit of God to lift them with Christ Jesus to our heavenly home, washed and prepared for the Bridegroom; Jesus Christ Himself. AMEN!
