Luke 7:11-16
The Gospels in Harmony  Sermon #146-7718

We will know turn to the Book of Luke as our base and gather in correlating scriptures from the other three writers or recorders of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to cover all scripture in the Gospels as they relate to each other and gather in an understanding of the Harmony of the Gospels. That harmony will give us a better understanding of the Harmony of the whole Bible.
    Let's begin:
11  And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12  Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13  And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14  And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16  And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
Luke 7:11-16
It came to pass--- Sometimes is viewed as eventually something else miraculous happened, but that's not quite the meaning here.
It came to pass is another way of saying---the next thing that happened.
Without giving exact hours and normal events pertaining to everyday life and existence, such as eating and sleeping; we are ushered to the next day’s events in the ministry of Jesus.
The next day---He went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
Luke 7:11
Remember Jesus had many followers. Many disciples including the ones He personally called and many people who were coming closer to discipleship with every truth they heard and every miracle they witnessed.
12  Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
Luke 7:12
The only son of a widow which meant she was know alone with no man to care or support her. She and her son were obviously well known and loved because the Bible states ------much people of the city was with her.
There was much grieving for this woman's loss.
Grieving is deep sorrow for a loss of someone very dear or for someone else's loss.
It is founded in love. True grieving comes from the loss of a loved one or a love for someone who has experienced that kind of loss. We are talking about the loss of another human being. Not your cat or your hamster!
Separation from a loved one by death is what brings the experience and outpouring of grief. Deep sorrow and weeping for one's loss. Grieving for others is proof of true compassion.
13  And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
Luke 7:13
     Jesus was God incarnate.
He had and has a never ending love for all mankind. If it were not so He would not have willingly given His life for ours. Yet here we see Jesus giving life back to a man who has died. Is it not the truth then, that in our Lord there is life?
We are talking about, walking, talking, eating and breathing life.
We are all given the breath of life from our Lord when we are born. We are all created in God's image as Adam and Eve. We are all given life in the flesh by God even though our souls are far from Him.
Why is it so hard for man to look beyond his flesh to see the power of creation?
Why do men believe they are all flesh and blood and their spirit is nothing more than their conscience or thoughts within their heads?
Satan does not want you to know or believe you are more than flesh. He does not want you to know you are a living spirit within that flesh. A spirit who has been separated from God by sin. A spirit who is not whole and  is bound for eternal damnation without the gift of life through faith in God's love for us.
16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:16-18
Because Jesus was with us in the flesh He knows the frailty of the flesh. He knows of sickness, pain and disease and death. He knows the sorrow of being separated from a loved one and He knows the power of love that we all can have.
Jesus will not deny true love.
I must bring forth a very important point that will differentiate between a true and false salvation.  Love.
It is not possible to be saved if you do not know the love that God has and has offered in the life of His Son for you. If you do not love Jesus Christ for giving Himself for your sin then you do not love God for the gift of His Son. Life is in the blood of Christ. The offering of the Lamb of God that death would not take us in sin against His Word. When you asked God to forgive your sin and asked for Jesus to come into your heart, you were asking for the blood of Christ to wash you of sin and restore life to your soul; your living spirit within your flesh.
In order to be truly saved you must truly love God for His offering and Jesus for His obedience in love. Love for Jesus for giving Himself and being raised again for us to follow in sinless faith is what repentance and confession and salvation is.
If you believe you are saved and do not have a never ending and continuous burning love and desire to be near and serve our Lord and Savior, you are in very questionable waters.
As we look at our text we see a great many people in deep sorrow for the loss of this young man and for his widowed mother. We see true love for others being expressed in sorrow because there was little else that could be done.
Seeing the love this woman and the many people of the city had for this family; Jesus was filled with compassion.
13  And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
Luke 7:13
In the presence of Jesus true love will not be denied.
Here we have the love of others being exhibited in deep sorrow.
That same love before Jesus must be exhibited by anyone seeking salvation. Love for what He has done and offered for us. Sorrow for the sin that we have submitted to in our ignorance.
It was in compassion for us that He gave Himself. It must be in compassion for that gift and His life in resurrection that will bring us to true repentance unto faith. There is no salvation without love.
You cannot say a repeat after me salvation prayer without love for the truth of the finished work of Christ on the cross. There is no; "been there done that, I got my get out of hell pass". There is no ceremony or memberships that make you a born again Christian. It is faith in love with Jesus Christ. Love for life in Christ!
We just finished a few sermons on the power of love for another person that brings us to recognize, respect and desire the love God has for us. The centurion's love for his servant’s life made him seek out Jesus who was demonstrating by His teaching and miracles to have authority over life, because of His love for others. The centurion believed in Jesus but did not pretend to have the authority of Jesus. He understood authority but did not claim to have the authority of Jesus. No, faith in the authority of Jesus is what glorified God and the same faith in love is what saved his soul and healed his servant.
14  And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
Luke 7:14
Have you ever thought about what just happened?
Here is a dead man. Obviously and most assuredly dead for several hours if not more.
All of his sensory receptors have ceased working. His flesh is dead, but Jesus speaks to this dead man and he responds immediately.
15  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
Luke 7:15
The soul does not die. I want you to think about that for a moment.
The souls of all men, women and children do not die. Our souls are God created and God given. Just as God they live forever. Where they live is up to us.
Love for and faith in Jesus Christ lifts and returns us to our Father in Heaven for eternity. Love and faith in ourselves and manmade religions leaves our souls to the will of Satan and eternal separation from God, which is Hell.
Jesus spoke to this man’s spirit in his soul and called him to return to life in his body. This is proof that Jesus was God incarnate. God is Spirit.
24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24
God speaks to our spirit by His Spirit. Our spirits know His voice. He is the creator of our souls and the life within them. Our spirits.
Have you ever thought about that?
Your soul is like your spiritual body. Your spirit is your conscious being that lives in your body and your soul. That is why your flesh, your physical body, follows the commands of your conscience. Your conscience is the outpouring of your spirit.
Good or bad, holy or unholy, saved or unsaved, your body follows the commands of your spirit.
45  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:45
Know when your spirit is joined with the Spirit of God they become one in righteousness and holiness through salvation. Your physical body will obey the desires and commands of your spirit bound as one in Christ.
Your physical body is condemned to return to the dust of the world but your spiritual body, your very soul, will either be but to eternal suffering and torment or raised in the blink of an eye to walk in the presence of God with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Your soul is your physical body in the spiritual worlds or places known as heaven and hell. Your spirit remains conscience to all the pain and suffering that your soul is subjected to for eternity. You are not just a spiritual energy going to a desolate place or a magnificent place. You have a spiritual body that punishment or reward will be administered or given to.
This is why when a person is truly saved, desires and lives for Jesus Christ; that person does not fear physical death because he knows his spiritual body is alive and will be kept in the power of God's love, forever. His spirit will be lifted with his soul to eternal bliss.
The person who is not saved or is foolishly deceived will live in total denial, soul deceiving self righteousness or spiritual misguidance. In any case, the instant they breathe their last, there soul is given up to the reward their spirit has gathered in for them.
4  Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ezekiel 18:4
And spirit that is one with that soul will be present for that eternal separation from God.
Or will be one with God by the presence of His living Spirit in that soul.

Your soul belongs to God. It was removed from His presence when sin entered the world through disobedience. The living, conscious spirits of Adam and Eve that believed the lies of Satan and chose to move against the commands of God.
Their souls were condemned to eternal conscious damnation and all souls since are lost without a spiritual reckoning and conscious effort to refuse the lies and live in love with the truth for life.
The soul of this young man in our text belonged to God. It is His to return to a body if He chooses. The spirit remains with the soul so the physical body would certainly respond to the presence of that spiritual life again.
15  And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16  And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, that God hath visited his people.
Luke 7:15-16
There came a reverential fear or respect and honor and praise for the presence of the power of God among them.
Can you gather in the totally of this miracle? These people just witnessed the power of God in the hands of Jesus, over death. They witnessed the returning of this man’s spirit and soul to His body by simple command spoken by Jesus.
They witnessed the authority Jesus had over death through the power of love and compassion for and with them who have true love and compassion for others.
35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:35-39
The truth of life is in love with Jesus Christ
The curse of death is in Satan's lies.
Believe the truth and live for our Lord and savior forever.
Believe the lie and live forever in the darkness all men are born into.
In either case, your soul will live forever in a conscious state.
The only thing that you need to know right now is; you don't have forever to come to the truth. You don't have forever to turn away from the spirit of this world to cry out in love for the Spirit of God and His promise of salvation. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and love Him for it, you have no time to waste.
He has the authority to lift your soul into life.
Pray for your salvation. Pray for the salvation of others.
15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
James 5:15-16
It was in love for us that God gave His son as a sacrifice for our souls to be saved. It was in love that Jesus faithfully obeyed the Father unto death. It was in love the Spirit of God raised Him once and forever to be our High priest at the right hand of God. He is waiting for your love to do the same for you. When your soul is filled with love for Jesus and compassion for others in faith and obedience you will here:
Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
Luke 7:14

God is always ready to visit His people---are you one of them?
