The Gospels in Harmony Sermon #137-52818

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12  Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 7:7-12
9  And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Luke 11:9-13

     Ask?
Ask what?
Jesus has just given us a parable about the blind leading the blind.
The truth in fulfilment is that you cannot lead a soul who wants to find the truth if you do not know or live in the truth. You cannot lead if you cannot find your own way.
So how do you find the way, the truth and the life God has promised us through Jesus Christ?
6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6
The way, the truth and the life of a disciple, a minister and an evangelist of the Gospel is through faith and obedience to the Word of God, Jesus Christ Himself.
The only way to lead a soul to Christ is to know and see the truth.
So how does that come about?
Jesus Himself tells us. He wants us to know. He wants us to see. He wants us to be His disciples and ministers and evangelists.
9  And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you;
Luke 11:9
   7  Ask, and it shall be given you;
Matthew 7:7
Ask believing you will receive what God has promised for all who are sincere and devoted to the Son of God. Ask without doubt!
5   If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
James 1:5-8
Do you want to know God as your loving, caring, giving, Father?
Then ask to know His Son Jesus Christ.
7  If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
John 14:7
Ask to come to Him with a penitent heart and confessing lips that your soul will be gathered in with the saints of all time. God looks at the heart of a man to see what he cannot hide. The hypocrite is white washed outside but the soul of the penitent man is washed inside. His heart is humble and sincere and God knows it!
The heart that lives for God is loved by God and He will give that soul all he asks for to come closer and know and serve God. God wants you to rise in and for His glory.
But to know God you must ask for the Word of truth to be revealed to you. You must ask to know and live for Jesus Christ.
There is no hypocrisy in studying the life of humility, service and power in Jesus Christ. There is no hypocrisy in loving and living for Jesus Christ. There is no hypocrisy in walking the path that God lays out for us to serve Him. There is no hypocrisy in humbling ourselves to a life that others may see and know the way, the truth and the life of Jesus Christ as their own.

-----seek, and ye shall find;
Matthew 7:7
-----seek, and ye shall find;
Luke 11:9
Just what are you looking for?
Are you looking for a holy vending machine?
Are you looking for an all powerful entity that promises to give you what ever you want to make you look and feel good?
Or---
Are you looking for a powerful life of love and fellowship with God in Christ Jesus?
There are no boundaries to what God can and will do, in and through the faithful and obedient disciple of Jesus Christ.
14  For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15  Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16  That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17  That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18  May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21  Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14-21
Seek, and ye shall find!
Seek the face of God in everything that you have done and are doing and ask to do!
Seek to be His child and seek to walk with Jesus by the might of the Holy Spirit in you.
Seek to be rooted and grounded in the word;------for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Joshua 1:8
Seek to be able to comprehend the power of God's love for you.
Seek to be strengthened with the Holy Spirit for the God glorifying work that was preordained for us.
10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10
Seek the will of God for His glory!
When you ask, ask for God's glory. When you seek, seek what glorifies God. Seek to lead in full confidence, knowing your eyes are on the righteous light of our lives, Jesus Christ. Seek the path that is less traveled, for it is the path of the true disciple.

------knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Matthew 7:7
-----knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Luke 11:9
Have ever knocked on a door and knew there was someone on the other side, yet they would not open their door to you?
Did you you stay and keep knocking or did you just walk away after knocking once or twice.
What most people want to believe is that all you have to do is knock once, look when and where it is convenient and ask for whatever they want. This portion of scripture is often grossly misinterpreted and sorrily abused.
How?
Jesus is not talking to every person who walks on the face of the earth.
No, He is talking to His disciples. He is giving instruction that can apply to anyone on the face of the earth but it is given to and for them who earnestly desire fellowship with Him through faith and obedience.
You see many false teachers and false religions want to say all you have to do is ask, seek and knock and God will give you anything. Well, that's not what Jesus is teaching. God does not give anything that will not honor and glorify Him. God's will is His gracious disposition toward us but He will not give for your selfish, self-centered, greedy and even lazy wants and desires.
God wants one thing from you. Your love!
Within that word we will know what faith and devotion and obedience and passion and dedication and yes, even a joy filled life really is. God wants your love as a child loves their own parents. God is our Father, our creator and deserves all of our love.
Jesus is teaching that God loves His own and will give, and support and guide and improve everyone of His children. It is the heart condition of the person that Jesus is implying as He teaches how greatly we are cared for by our Father in Heaven.
Just asking because you were told to do so will be of little use unless you know who you are asking from and they also know you.
Seeking something you have heard about will be a walk in the dark if you do not have the light of truth to guide you.
Knocking will be a waste of time if you are not persistent and sincere in need to have the door of God's promise opened to you.
Jesus is first and foremost talking about Himself.
To become a disciple of Jesus and a child of God you must first have a heart for God.
Not just actions and works and religious activities that appear to be God honoring.
No, God wants your heart, your total love and devotion to His Son, Jesus Christ.
But, you must come to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ and in order to do so you must give your life in love for Him as He gave His life for you.
You cannot just use the Bible to be a good person and pick out the verses that you think apply to you or would get you the most in life.
No, the Bible is the living Word of God and it was given for us to know God through Jesus Christ. To come to God you must confess Jesus is God's Word of promise and repent of your life of sin unto faith in the saving grace of God through His Word, Jesus Christ.
8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Matthew 7:8
10  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Luke 11:10
To come to God you must come through His Son.
Repentance unto faith and obedience in love is how you come to Jesus.
Sincerity of heart and a need for His love will bring the correct questions and will guide you to where you need to seek for your answers and last but not least; it will open doors for you whenever you knock.
Ask, Seek and knock is not a magical incantation!
It begins and continues with the knowledge of God's love given for each one of us.
If God gave the life of His Son for your soul then how could you ever come asking and seeking and knocking for His blessing, without even being in love with Him through His Son?
9  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
Matthew 7:9-10
11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luke 11:11-12
In our text you will notice Jesus uses the words father and son.
This is proof of the relationship one must have with God before one can come to Him asking. God has already given His only and best for us. But it is through sincere and devoted faith and obedience to Jesus that we can come as His children to Him.
A loving father would not give his child anything less than what he asks for, seeks and earnestly desires, if it is for their good. Worldly fathers do not intentionally give gifts to harm their children and neither does our loving Father in Heaven.
In fact He will give far more to His children. HIS CHILDREN!
20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Ephesians 3:20
Not just anyone looking to turn Him into a holy vending machine like so many children treat their parents today!
11  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Matthew 7:11
13  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: ----
Luke 11:13
The point that is so often overlooked is, Jesus is talking to men who are already his disciples. They belong to God because of their love and devotion to Him.
Ask, seek, knock is the order of things for a lost soul to come to know Jesus but that is how we all must begin our walk in the very first glimmer of truth that shines in our hearts. Repentance unto faith and confession unto love and devotion is what lifts you into the family of God for eternity.
When you come asking for the presence of God in your life through His Son Jesus Christ, the first thing you are given is His presence in your life.
13 ------- how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Luke 11:13
God does not give Himself to sinners. He gave of Himself for sinners, but we still must humble ourselves in sincerity for life. He gives Himself to His children who have turned from their sins and cried out for forgiveness in all sincerity. They are the ones who are blessed and given the power and knowledge to grow into faithful and obedient ministers and evangelists of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are given everything they ask for and more; for God's glory. AMEN!
