Romans 2:12-16  Sermon #10-22413  (RW-91920)

12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;                                                  13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.                                        14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:                                          15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)      16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

As we begin our sermon for today I would like all of us to grasp the harmony of the whole Bible.
Psalm 14:3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.  The Psalms are prophetic songs and poems written by God’s chosen angels or messengers of His Word of Truth.
As Paul begins in verse 12 we see he is restating Psalm 14:3.

There is no acquittal for anyone in God’s court. All are guilty of sin and are deserving of the second death, which is spiritual death or eternal separation from God who is Spirit.
John 4:24   God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

All are guilty, even those who never hear the Gospel.
Why?
Romans 1:18-19                                                                              18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;                                                            19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

There is in every man a conscience.
A God given element that speaks to one’s heart.
It’s not your mind. Although one’s mind may refuse to listen to one’s heart and therefore overrule the conscience: a righteous man will listen to his God given conscience and do what is right.
There are many avenues to travel concerning one’s conscience but at this time we will focus on right and wrong.

In every civilization, humans have established moral and ethical codes to live by for the good of the whole.
Even those who have never heard the Word of God have a basic standard of right and wrong.
Stealing, coveting, murder, bearing false witness; inherently people everywhere know right from wrong.
Do they adhere without fault to this knowledge within themselves?
NO!
Are they then guilty in God’s court on judgment day?
Yes!
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
It’s not just God’s magnificent work of creation that is on display for all men to see and hear and touch and taste but it is the inherent knowledge of right and wrong within all men.
Now, one will say “I know a man who is a saint. He never swears and he is the most charitable person I have ever seen. He loves and lives for his family and you’re telling me he will spend eternity in Hell if he is not saved?”
Yes!
4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
How blessed is a man that knows what really is right and good and merciful and charitable and fulfilling.
This man is created by God, yet does not recognize where all this comes from or even worse refuses to recognize.
Every man has a God shaped hole in His soul.
That is the hole left behind when God stepped away from Adam and Eve because of the sin that entered them in Paradise.
That same sin and therefore the same hole that was created by it, has been passed on to everyone that has ever lived.
The conscience of every man is aware of it or he wouldn’t work so hard to make up something to fill it or try so hard to deny it.

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Knowing right from wrong is inherent.
Degrees of right and wrong, is where men get into trouble!

Yes some men may seem like they are surely deserving of sainthood, but I can assure you if they were held up in the light of our perfect Savior they would show all the filth of sin in their lives.
Psalm 14:3                                                                                                    They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
These are men who know, but allow their thoughts to wash away or cover the truth until they are no longer able to seek the true giver of righteousness.
These are the men spoken of in verse- 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.
Romans 1:28
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
-----------------------------------
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Now I do not want you to become confused here.
Just because one does what is right according to law of their conscience, (their God given ability to choose right from wrong), does not mean they will be saved.
This is the hearing of the law from the heart.
This is why hearing the law with the ears has such a powerful ability to draw people to Christ.
What you hear you believe because your heart already knows!
Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
This is why even those who have never heard the Word of God will be found guilty of sin if they do not believe there is a one true God that is above all things.
Not knowing God but knowing there is a God that they could never create and not crying out in faith to Him is no different than knowing God by hearing His word and crying out in faith.
God gives every man a measure of faith to believe in Him whether he knows the name of Jesus Christ or not.
Once again men get in trouble when they try to create a god to fill their needs instead if living in faith with The God that is ready and willing to come in and fulfill their lives.
Habakkuk 2:4  “Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
So the law in the heart of every man begins with “believe in God.”
The heart knows, the conscience confirms, but the thoughts in a man’s mind keep eating away at the truth and lying about the penalty of wrong doing, until it is too late.
------- but the doers of the law shall be justified.
And the first law in a man’s heart is what?
The same law that comes first in the Ten Commandments:
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3
Paul proves what he is saying by his reaction to what he found in his travels to Athens, Greece.
Acts 17:22-28
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.                                                                                          23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.                                                                            Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.                                                                                                           24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;                                                                                          25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:                                                                                                     28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Now listen folks, If you never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but know in your heart there is a Creator of all things deserving of your faith and obedience to righteousness by your conscience, yet Do Not Do SO, you will justly receive the penalty of death.
Then what will be the outcome of those who DO hear, but DO NOT respond in faith and obedience having the righteousness of the Word confirmed by their conscience?
This is proof that the unforgivable sin is Unbelief.
• Not believing your God given conscience.
• Not believing the God given Word that confirms your conscience.
• Not believing in God or His Son who willingly gave His life for you.
• Not believing, unbelief is a sin that will surprise many.
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Listen Folks, evryone is guilty of sin and deserving of eternal separation from God, which is Hell. But only those who put there faith in Jesus Christ, that He has paid the penalty for that sin will be lifted into the family of God once again. Guilty of sin? Yes. Penalty paid? Yes.

Sin completely forgotten? Yes.

Made new in Christ? Yes. Your sin is covered by the Blood of the Lamb of God and you may now enter into the Kingdom of God. Praise the Lord!
AMEN!
