Romans 5:5  Sermon #33-101014 -(RW12122)

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
As we continue with our study in Romans 5, we see Paul making a statement that all believers must know.
5 And hope maketh not ashamed;-----
Think for a moment, if hope were just wishful thinking. If hope were asking just in case the odds were in your favor.
If hope were a long shot or even had the slightest chance of not being true, then why does Paul state ----hope maketh not ashamed.
Once again, hope in the Bible means a blessed assurance. That means being assured of your favoritism with God. You are most certainly God’s favorite.
How did you become God’s favorite?
Through a never ending and growing faith in Jesus Christ.
He is our Hope. He is the one who died for our sins. He is the one who was raised again to everlasting life. He is the one who now stands at the right hand of God interceding for us. He is our High Priest. He is our Lord and Saviour.
He is the Great "I Am"
Nowhere in the Bible is there any doubt cast that Jesus Christ could be or might be our Lord and Saviour.
The only doubt comes from us!
Now our Hope is Jesus Christ because He is the Great "I Am"
And how do we know?
5------------because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
The blessed assurance, the hope we have begins with the knowledge of God’s love for us.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The knowledge that God gave His own Son to die on the cross in our place. Made Him to carry our sin on His back. Our burdens were lifted from us and placed on the cross in the flesh of Jesus Christ to die in His flesh, but our spirits are made to rise in His Spirit, to live an eternal life with and through and in Him. Amen and Amen!
Can you shout for the Lord today!
Once again; how do we know?
5------------because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
We know this to be true because of the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
I would like for all those who have been taught that you must ask for the Holy Spirit to pay close attention to this one of many verses that disprove that false teaching.
At the moment of justification, you are given and sealed with Gods promised Holy Spirit. If you have any doubts about that, look closely at the word IS.
Is does not mean withheld until asked for.
As kids we used to trade a lot of stuff "If you give me that I'll give you this." To some folks they still believe that is giving something. No; that’s trading. Yes, you may hand something over but behind and beyond that action is a trade not a gift.
GIVEN TO US means you and I are the bearers of a free gift.
IS GIVEN makes it clear there is no doubt. A positive action in whole. Not in part, or later. And what IS GIVEN?
THE points to an absolute, something real, something that can be seen, felt, or heard. Now some would say you cannot see or hear or feel the Holy Spirit.
I can testify that the effects of a person walking in the Spirit of God are visible, tangible and audible. It's like electricity. You can't see it, but you know it's there because of all the wonderful things that can be done when it is allowed to flow.
In between the HOLY SPIRIT and the words IS GIVEN TO US is the key to a fulfilled promise. The word WHICH. In this instance which refers to the power of the Holy Spirit through the Spirit Himself. It is the eye-opening power of the Holy Spirit that makes us to realize Gods love for us. Yes, He, the holy Spirit is given to us but it is His work in us which makes us to see and grow in love with God.
It is the Power of the Holy Spirit that draws us to God and opens our hearts to hear the truth of God’s Word. It is the power of The Holy Spirit that helps us break through our excuses and fears to come to the cross. And it is the Power of the Holy Spirit that remains within us with Him when we confess and repent and give ourselves for Christ. When we step through the curtain we step into Christ.
We live in Him and He lives in us.
THE HOLY SPIRIT is God! God doesn't hide from those who seek Him. He has told us in His Word, He gave His Son for us when we were still sinners, how much more do you think he will give to those who have been washed clean by the blood of His Son.
The Holy Spirit is our helper. He is always present to teach and guide and guard and protect us from turning away from the straight and narrow path to heaven. The Holy Spirit is God once again giving Himself totally for those who by the power of the Spirit know that He is present.
Many are confused between asking for the Spirit and asking for the Spirit to work in and through them for Gods Glory.
IN OUR HEARTS is where the Holy Spirit lives and does His work. He is there always speaking to us. Always reminding us of what we are to do and should not be doing. He is directly attached to our inner man our Soul and Spirit and guides us as we are purified and sanctified for the glory of God.
But first and foremost, He assures us of God's love. Before and after we kneel at the cross. If we did not and do not understand how much God truly loves us, we would not come to Him humbling ourselves, opening our hearts to pure out our sins and receive God Himself back in.
I was once told that every man has a God shaped hole in him. Every man tries to fill that hole with one thing or another but the only thing that will fill that hole and make a man whole, is God Himself. I believe that by the Word and by experience!
Luke 17:19
And he said to him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
IS SHED ABROAD Literally means--- pour into us.
Not shown to or sprinkled with but literally pour into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Poured in our hearts by God Himself that everywhere we look and in everything we do we see Gods love for us.
THE LOVE OF GOD IS SHED ABROAD. When we begin to understand just how much God loves us, we begin to desire that love. It is a pure and Holy love that the world is without, and once we are shown that love by the scriptures and example through other Christians our hearts yearn to be filled with that love.
Remember the God shaped hole that is in every man? Well, the Bible says God is love. When the Holy Spirit sheds abroad or pours in God’s love, it is God himself that is being poured into that God shaped hole in our hearts.
1 John 4:7-19
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 We love him, because he first loved us.
As we continue, we see that THE LOVE OF GOD is the cause of something as it is SHED ABROAD IN OUR HEARTS.
How do we know? BECAUSE is the word that comes BE-fore the CAUSE.
It points directly to the answer.
Now some will say, Pastor Freede after all that I've forgot the question.
Not to worry.
There was no question. Paul is expounding on the evidence of justification.
We know we are justified, we know we are saved, we know we are blood bought and born again 5---because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
What we know in our hearts is our hope. It is our blessed assurance; it is our confident expectation.
Justification-Sanctification-Glorification. It is all through faith.
Knowing God in your heart will never disappoint you.
Once you taste the love that only He can give you will never doubt His promise of everlasting life. You will never be disappointed. You will never be ASHAMED You will be filled with expectation, your faith will bring you to your HOPE.
That HOPE is Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:24
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
He is our blessed assurance of every promise God has ever made.
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.
