Romans 3 Sermon #23-122113  (RW-33121)
Romans 3:21-23
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:                                                                    23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
       As we begin this morning there are a few words in our text that I would like to bring to the surface. Sort of extract them so we have a better understanding of what Paul has been saying to his accusers and to the church in Rome. Let’s begin:
But now--- Always present tense! The truth never dies. It stands forever. What stands forever? The righteousness of God. Do we really understand what that means? God is Righteous. It is He that created us in His image. The righteousness of God is God’s claim on all creation, especially man.
Genesis 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Isaiah 43:7                                                                                       7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
 Romans 11:36                                                                                 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
Colossians 1:16
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Revelation 10:5-6                                                                         5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,                            6 And sware by him that liveth forever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
   Why would anyone question the creator of all things? Should we not all say;
8 But now, O Lord, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Isaiah 64:8                                                                                                       The righteousness of God is his glory. ---You can’t have God’s righteousness, for God said he would not give his glory to another. When God looks at us as believers in Jesus Christ, He see’s us as His creation in Jesus Christ with all of the righteousness in His Son. Being a believer means you believe without a doubt that God gave the perfect sacrifice, the perfect sinless and only righteous sacrifice, to satisfy the penalty of sin.
   God gave His Word (are you getting a handle on this)—His Word—Jesus Christ. His Word; Born of Him and Him alone. Now some may say “I thought Jesus was born of Mary?”        Mary was the chosen vessel to bare the Word of God so that He would be totally man yet totally the righteousness of God.       God said to Mary;
Luke 1:31                                                                                                     And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call His name Jesus.
And again in Luke 1:35                                                                                 And the angel answered and said unto her, the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that Holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
     God created man in His image for His glory. At the moment Adam and Eve sinned they chose to turn away from their creator, the glory of His righteousness in an attempt to be lie God. What did Satan say to Eve?
Genesis 3:4-5
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall shall not surely die:                                                                                        5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good from evil.                                                                    Satan told Eve you shall be like God, being gods yourselves. You see, they did not have God’s righteousness but were the image of His righteousness. His glory was His creation in His righteousness. When Adam and Eve sinned against the righteousness of God, they were no longer the image of God but had become the image of Satan.  Sin entered all mankind because; like begets like. If Adam and Eve had not sinned their children would not have needed to bring offerings to please God and there would have been no jealousy or murder. They would have continued as the image of God, displaying the righteousness of God for His glory
    Now let’s put it this way; The righteousness of God is the claim which God has on man; --for He is the potter and we are the clay.
Romans 9:19-20
19 Thou wilt say then unto Me, why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted His will?                                      20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to Him that formed it, why hast thou made me thus?
     The glory of God is His righteousness that shines through us, His creation in His image! But we are all born in sin.
Romans 3:10                                                                                 10 As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: ---unrighteousness is sin.                                                                          Anything we say, think, or do that is not a reflection of God’s righteousness is unrighteousness, which is sin.                                                                                                                1 John 3:8                                                                                         8 He that committeth sin is of the Devil; for the Devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the Devil.
    Only a righteous God, only a God of never ending love would still love sinners. Only the creator of all things would make a way for a broken vessel to be healed instead of discarded. Only our God would give His only begotten Son to be both the image He had created and the righteousness that He is, to be sacrificed for our sins. God’s glory became Jesus Christ!—and His righteousness is imparted or reckoned to us through Christ Jesus.   The only way we may return to being God’s Glory is through Jesus Christ. His glory is imparted or reckoned upon us when we confess our sins and by faith receive the free gift of salvation believing the blood sacrifice of the righteousness of God; God’s glory in the flesh, was given for you and I. Only a righteous God has the right to offer a way for us to come back to Him. Only a righteous God would!
JOHN 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever beleiveth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Our text reads: Romans 3:21                                                        21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, --- Jesus was not the Law. Jesus came to be the fulfillment of the Law. No man was, is or ever will be able to fulfill the Law.  Oh there were and still are those who believe if you follow the ten commandments you can get into heaven. But even they have varying standards as to what degree they are to be followed. Besides what did Jesus say was the greatest commandment?                             Matthew  22:36-38
36 Master, Which is the greatest commandment in the law?
37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
For God said through His prophet Isaiah:
Isaiah 48:10-11
10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen the in the furnace of affliction.                                      11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted?  And I will not give my glory to another.
God said I will receive you from the fire of the curse of sin that is on every man, for My sake. Yes for My glory!
 Psalm 25:8
8 Good and upright is the Lord: He will teach sinners in the way.
When we come before the cross, we are confessing the righteousness of God:
22   Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:                                                                    23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
       God’s Glory was in the Adam, as Adam was made in His image, for Adam was the reflection of God’s righteousness. When Adam sinned, God’s Glory was no longer with Him. Jesus, the second Adam, came with all of the Glory of God because He was God incarnate. Jesus was the only Man to die for sins He never committed and because of His Righteousness, death could not hold Him and He was raised again.
Colossians 1:18                                                                                18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.                                                Isaiah 48:11 ---and I will not give my glory unto another.
     We are saved through faith in Christ’s righteousness. As we walk reflecting the righteousness of God in our Christian lives, all of the Glory goes to Jesus. God Himself gave of Himself, that we might have a way back to Him for His Glory.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: AMEN!
When God looks upon us He see’s Jesus’ righteousness that was given and then taken up again. It’s His righteousness that God see’s, not ours. And when He see’s us walk in the righteousness of Jesus it glorifies Him.

Is God looking at you through Jesus or is He just looking for you?
